A glass handling course can contain a number of topics, and the contents can be adapted to customer demands. A selection of topics that a course can contain:

  • Glass properties: Viscosity-temperature curve, thermal expansion, permanent and temporary stresses in glass, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, glass composition and soft, hard and quartz glass types, polariscope, fracture analysis, reject analysis.
  • Glass to metal connections: Softglass and copperclad, hardglass and tungsten or molybdenum, quartz and molybdenum, matched and non-matched vacuum tight connections.
  • Gasses and burners:  Combustion theory, types of gasses, types of burners, types of mixers, safety aspects, pressures and flows.
  • Specific lamp making processes: Flare making, stem making, sealing, tipping (incandescent halogen fluorescent discharge automotive).
  • Auditing production area: During a glass handling course, there is a strong link to the practical glass handling. Auditing, monitoring and analysis of root causes is an intricate part of learning. Discussed theory can be implemented in the production area to improve efficiencies and decrease reject levels.
